Presentation Regarding Canada’s Banking System, Top 1 Percent and National Debt

Presentation by a remarkable young girl that basically breaks down the problems of Canada’s banking system and why Canadians are becoming poorer while the top 1 percent are making more? Talks about national debt and how to fix these problems.

Quite interesting. I think she is correct on all the points she made. Wondering if anyone thought otherwise and had evidence on why anything mentioned is wrong.

Video has gone viral.

UN Envoy Condemns Canada for its Food Policy

http://www.sunnewsnetwork.ca/sunnews…16-114017.html

Ottawa is fighting back after a UN envoy lectured "self-righteous" Canada for its approach to food issues, saying Canada should be "ashamed."

Olivier De Schutter, special rapporteur on the right to food, witnessed "very desperate conditions and people who are in extremely dire straits" during an 11-day mission to Canada.

He added Canada has an "appallingly poor" record of enacting recommendations from UN human rights agencies.
Immigration Minister Jason Kenney fired back Wednesday, saying Canada is "a world leader in food aid."

"It would be our hope that the contributions we make to the United Nations are used to help starving people in developing countries, not to give lectures to wealthy and developed countries like Canada and I think this is a discredit to the United Nations," Kenney said
——————-
Canada gives a ton of money and food aid to developing nations… I guess the Harper Govt should reply to UN that they are absolutely correct and since "charity begins at home" we will no longer be giving any money or food aid to Third World countries and will instead keep the money at home for Canadians to address the identified issues.

No such thing as a bad job Jim Flaherty tells picky unemployed workers

No such thing as a bad job Jim Flaherty tells picky unemployed workers
http://www.montrealgazette.com/busin…342/story.html

Quote:

The Harper Conservatives are signalling they are preparing to get tough with unemployed Canadians who refuse jobs they consider below them or too far away.

Finance Minister Jim Flaherty said Monday new rule changes to define “suitable employment” and “reasonable” efforts at finding work have yet to come down, but as far as he’s concerned people should be prepared to take pretty well any available job.

“There is no bad job, the only bad job is not having a job,” he told reporters. “I drove a taxi, I refereed hockey. You do what you have to do to make a living.”

Quote:

“We are going to have significant labour shortages in this country,” he said.

“That means we are going to have to encourage more persons with disabilities to work, more seniors to work, more aboriginal people to work, including young people. We need to get rid of disincentives in the employment insurance system to people joining the work force.”

Would you take a job that is not in your field, relocate, or retrain rather than collecting EI?

HIV less prevalent in Canada?

http://www.cbc.ca/news/health/story/…-drug-fda.html

Quote:

An estimated 1.2 million Americans have HIV, which develops into AIDS unless treated with antiviral drugs. AIDS causes the body’s immune system to breakdown, leading to infections which are eventually fatal. Gay and bisexual men account for the majority of cases — nearly two-thirds.

The number of new HIV infections in the U.S. has held steady for 15 years at about 50,000 per year. But with no vaccine in sight and an estimated 240,000 HIV carriers unaware of their status, doctors and patients say new methods are needed to fight the spread of the virus.

An estimated 65,000 were living with HIV in Canada in 2009, according to Public Health Agency of Canada

Given that our populations are roughly in a 1:10 ratio, it would appear that Canadians are roughly 50% less likely to be infected with HIV, than their American counterparts.

Any ideas why this is? Do we have fewer gay and bisexual men in Canada (ie: the primary disease carriers) than in the United States?

Brampton Mayor Susan Fennell blocks any discussion of cricket stadium

Quote:

Brampton councillors couldn’t contain their anger Wednesday after Mayor Susan Fennell refused to allow discussion about a proposal to build a world-class baseball-cricket venue for the 2015 Pan Am Games.

“This is ridiculous — you can’t even let the guy speak!” Councillor Paul Palleschi yelled, referring to former mayor Peter Robertson, who was on hand to present the concept. Robertson stood for 20 minutes at the deputants’ podium while councillors tried fruitlessly to convince Fennell he should be allowed to make his presentation.

“We’re not re-opening the agenda,” Fennell declared.

After the meeting, Fennell did not comment to the Star. Spokesperson Ian Newman said she was not available.

A group of prominent Bramptonians, including developer John Cutruzzola, who built city hall, is backing the proposal. Using money earmarked for Pan Am Games capital costs and private investment, the project would build two multi-use facilities at a cost of about $40 million.

One facility could be configured for baseball during the Games and used later for cricket and kabbadi, sports especially popular with thousands of Punjabi Canadians in Brampton. It could be placed next to the Powerade Centre, where Highways 407 and 410 meet, and would include a cricket stadium, shops, dining and entertainment venues.

The proposal says no taxpayer money beyond what the Pan Am Committee provides through Ottawa and Queen’s Park would be used.

The backers were trying desperately to get their proposal walked onto Wednesday’s agenda because the Games Committee has told them time is running out for council approval, if Brampton wants to get on the list of potential hosts.

“This is a situation where there is a critical time element,” Palleschi demanded. “We have added items onto the agenda before. I guess some of us don’t think this is that important.”

The vote to add the proposal was 8-3 in favour, but Fennell said it needed unanimous consent.

“My mind’s set. I didn’t want to bring this back to rehash,” said Councillor John Sprovieri, one of two Fennell allies who voted against allowing it. He was referring to a council vote two months ago against making a bid for a more modest baseball venue.

He also said, contrary to what was in the written proposal, that he understood taxpayers would have to pay for the whole plan.

Palleschi pointed out that the vote two months ago was a consent item, meaning there was no debate. Much of the information in the new proposal, Councillor Gael Miles said, wasn’t part of a staff report presented at the time.

Other councillors pointed out that the idea they voted on two months ago wasn’t nearly as visionary and dynamic as the new proposal.

“The bottom line is this,” Councillor Elaine Moore said after the meeting: “If we are approached by individuals with creative and progressive ideas for the city without dipping into taxpayers’ pockets, it’s incumbent for us to listen to them. It’s our job to listen to our citizens.

“Today we refused to let them talk to us. If we don’t allow engagement, no one’s going to work with this council.”

Robertson says the story isn’t over.

“We already have four investors that have come forward on their own with considerable amounts to invest. They think this is a fantastic opportunity for the whole region. I’ll be back next week and the proposal will be on the agenda.”

http://www.thestar.com/news/cityhall…t-stadium?bn=1

Looks like the mayor of Brampton is not a cricket fan and has no interest in building this facility. I am not too clear on the 2015 pan am games, but couldn’t they just play baseball in the skydome or is it being used for track & field? Also what is this kabbadi? Some kind of football game?

So do you think it is right for the mayor of brampton to not even let the supporters voices be heard at city council? Do you think the facility should be built? I can see it only being used/supported by one main ethnicity since mainly only one group watches cricket. Now if major league baseball expanded and wanted another minor league team, they could also use this building.

So do you think the city should spend money to build this stadium considering it will cater mainly to cricket fans, and most of brampton is not interested in cricket?

Why all the hatred against RIM?

Every time I peruse viewer’s comments on The Globe and Mail articles on RIM, it seems like there are so many haters of the company.

What has RIM done (or not done) to deserve such hatred? Besides those who had been let go in the last few years and "long-term" investors who got burned, I don’t see why a company deserve such treatment when it has been providing employment to Canadians and have been one of only a few remaining vestiges of Canadian ingenuity.

Likely, suggestions by concerned employees fell on deaf ears, but who doesn’t believe that Google and Apple could not grab so much market share in the smartphone industry.

Though social media has remained resilient to Google’s charge, many other competitor have been almost slaughtered (Yahoo, Map Quest). Now Google is taking on Drop Box.

Though RIM was too slow to adopt, hopefully BB10 will do wonders for its bottom line. I’m currently using the Android OS (2.3.4) only to do a few things really — check emails, surf the web on occasion, wifi hotspot, GPS navigation and make use of Dell Voice, Text Plus, and Skype just so I don’t have to pay for airtime. Not sure if BB10 will do all these plus more though RIM’s definitely hurt with the eroding hardware margins since Android phones can cost around $100.

Anyway, I would hate to see another Canadian company disappear. There’s been a hollowing out of Canadian commodity companies and this is one of the few technology companies left.

Eye Exams

I just came back from my family Dr.

He asked me if I have medical coverage because I have to pay to go to an eye Dr.

Now, does he mean the eye doctors at hakim optical and lenscrafters? because I know Canadians get one free eye exam a year.

Im sure he didnt send me to a hakim optical. He sent me to a private Dr that is a Ophthalmologist.

Is it still 1 exam free per year.

What price am I looking at?

Perspective of Immigration of Canadians into other areas.

Lets face facts, the complaint many white Canadians have is that when Immigrants move into a place, lets say Canada, USA, UK they tend to go into their little area and mix there. This to them becomes a great big hubb-bubb and they state that they don’t get "Canadian Culture" whatever that is.

However, the fact is that it exists on the other side as well. They come, NOT INVITED, but CHOOSE to come to the UAE, Dubai, Saudi Arabia and CHOOSE to work here and live. But what do they do? Instead of intermixing with the population, who are not all terrorists or haters of anything "Western" or "White" contrary to the media portrayal, they go and ghettoize within their own little gated communities of like or similar people where they set their own rules and live by them.

How can Canadians here complain of immigrants "ghettoizing" when clearly their fellow citizens do the same? Why isn’t there a call from these White Canadians to abandon these ghetto compounds and integrate with the population? Or is it clearly a one way street with the white man lays the rules and the rest follow?

Whats with these double standards? I have no doubt that should there be an opportunity many of the so call complainers would not hesitate to go and earn some tax free income there living in their ghettos and contributing nothing to the society.
